Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

The ‘Pupil Premium’ funding was introduced by the Government in April 2011 with the objective of narrowing the achievement gap between students from low income families and their peers.  Pupil Premium is paid to the Academy based on the number of children eligible for free school meals now or in the previous 6 years, children in care and children with parents currently serving in the armed services.

Eckington School is committed to ensuring support and resources are in place to enable our disadvantaged students to improve their academic outcomes.  This academic year (2020-2021) we anticipate that we will receive £212,965. Our aim is to spend this extra money to the best benefit of our Pupil Premium students. We aim to improve our students’ levels of attainment and progress by seeking to address our students’ barriers to learning and engagement.  We aim to do this by:

  • providing students with consistently good teaching and learning day in day out ensuring teachers address barriers to learning in lessons quickly and then create targeted in-lesson intervention
  • working with students to improve their attendance;
  • providing students with a more tailored range of extra-curricular activities;
  • providing our students with a range of experiences and opportunities to learn about post 16 options and employment;

If you have any enquiries regarding the pupil premium funding please contact our pupil premium coordinator; Mrs Gregory or the pupil premium link governor.
