Our Local Governing Body

An Academy’s Local Governing Body (LGB) undertake a vital role in contributing to the work of LEAP Multi-Academy Trust to ensure high standards of achievement and “Achieving Excellence” for all children and young people in education within the Trust’s Academies.

Governors currently appointed on the LGB at Eckington School are:-

  • Jill Wormleighton (Chair) – Co-Opted Governor
  • Jan Dakin (Vice Chair) – Co-Opted Governor
  • Philip Johnson – Co-Opted Governor
  • Julie Meiner – Co-Opted Governor
  • Laura Moor – Staff Governor
  • Richard Phillips – Co-Opted Governor
  • Tim Vernon – Parent Governor
  • Christopher White – Co-Opted Governor
  • Megan Wynne – Staff Governor

Governors make a significant contribution to holding Academy Principals to account for the educational performance and success of Academies.  As part of the role a Governor will:-

  1. Attend:-
  • Termly full LGB meetings and contribute to discussions regarding the Principal’s Termly Report [including a budget position summary update]
  • Termly associated LGB Committees
  1. Strategy & Leadership
  • Follow the strategic objectives of the Trust/Academy and ensure progress towards those strategic objectives is reviewed
  • Review the Academy Improvement Plan / Ofsted Action Plan / Key Performance Indicators to ensure progress is made
  • Contribute to the self-evaluation process for the relevant Academy
  • Adhere to policies regarding compliance (regulatory) relating to specific areas outlined (eg Trust Complaints Policy/Procedure)
  • Adhere to Trust requirements relating to the LGB
  1. Participate, as appropriate, in the following LGB Committees, for which separate terms of reference apply:-
  • Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Committee
  • Student Behaviour, Attendance, Safeguarding & Well-Being Committee
  • Pay Progression Committee
  1. Participate in the following:-
  • Support the Academy Principal by monitoring the school’s performance
  • Support the Academy Principal in staff recruitment
  • Ensure school staff have the resources and support they require to do their jobs well
  • When required, serve on panels of Governors (eg student exclusions, staff grievance/disciplinary matters etc)
  • Championing staff, students, parents/carers and the local community and by participating in Staff, Student, Parent Voice sessions
  • Celebrate students’ achievements and success
