Wellbeing at Eckington School

Positive well-being and mental health are essential requirements in ensuring that young people develop into healthy adults, and the educational system plays a crucial role in shaping the experiences which lead to a healthy mind.

The mental health and wellbeing of all members of Eckington School is essential to our philosophy and ethos. We all have mental health, and it is important our students learn how to maintain good mental health and wellbeing. This page provides links to a range of resources and information to support positive mental health and wellbeing for students, parents and staff

Poor mental health is a major barrier to educational attainment. Research suggests that large numbers of pupils with emotional problems / mental health concerns fall behind in their overall educational attainment, miss school or are excluded, which can lead to problems later in life. These trajectories can be corrected, but only with recognition and intervention.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Statement

The mental health and wellbeing of all members of Eckington School (including students, staff and parents) is at the core of all that we do. We aim to ‘Achieve excellence’ through valuing everyone and caring for each other

Aims:

  • To ensure that through the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing, children and young people are helped to understand and express their feelings, build their confidence and emotional resilience and therefore their capacity to learn.

  • To increase the awareness and understanding and reduce stigma amongst students, staff and parents/carers of issues involving the mental health and wellbeing of young people and to provide a hierarchy of support to students and staff who is or appears to be suffering from mental health issues.
