We work closely with a range of primary schools in Years 5 and 6 within the area to ensure that we offer quality transition from KS2 to KS3. Transition activities at Eckington School allow children to familiarise themselves with their new environment, make new friends, meet our staff and have many of their questions answered. In addition, we have a Maths Master Class, to support the progress of our most able mathematicians and a Head start programme to support those who might need a little more help with their move to Year 7.
In the summer term, key staff and students will visit many of our primary schools to develop positive relationships, speak to Year 6 children about what to expect at Eckington School. At this point primary staff share information about the children coming to Eckington, so that jointly we can best support their transition. The Year 6 information evenings are an opportunity to meet key staff and find out a little more about how you can best support your child’s move to secondary school.
Our Year 6 Open evening in September 2018 was a great success and very well attended. Our students were on hand, alongside many of our staff, to help parents and students find out more about our school. If you were unable to make it, or would just like another look., we offer the opportunity for you to visit us at any time throughout the year. If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact us on 01246 432849.
This is the first real taste of Eckington School for most children in June/July. Students will spend two days with us experiencing life at Eckington School. Students will get to sample school meals, undertake practical lessons and make new friends. Each set of taster days include students from a range of schools so that they get to mix with and meet new people.
If you are interested in attending a taster day and your primary school does not already arrange one, please contact us on 01246 432849.
