Exams

Exam season can be a stressful and worrying time, but the best way to beat the stress is to know exactly what you are going to do when you get into the exam and how you are going to tackle the questions.

Before the exam you need to ensure you are going to be comfortable for the duration of the exam. You should eat a reasonable breakfast or lunch, wear warm comfortable clothing and obviously go to the toilet before the exam begins.

In the exam you should read the paper at least twice before writing anything. If there is a choice of questions to answer, mark the ones you have chosen to avoid getting confused later on. You should then allocate time to each question, the more marks available for the question the longer you should spend on it, try not to spend too long on one section and then rush others, it is better to answer three questions reasonably well than write one brilliant answer and two mediocre ones. When answering essay type questions you should try to write a brief introduction stating the main points of your answer, then a detailed explanation of those points in the main part of your answer and a brief summary of the points in your conclusion.

When you have finished answering all the questions you should read through all your answers and check your work thoroughly. Don't be tempted to leave early even if you think you have finished, any flash of inspiration you have on the way home won't count!

Finally, do your best and good luck from everyone at Eckington School.
