Dear Parents and Carers

We were inspected recently by Ofsted as part of their routine cycle of inspections.

The report highlights just how well-behaved and respectful our students are. They feel safe in school and are developing into rounded young adults.

The report also points out that, although our disadvantaged and SEN students achieve well, the progress of our most able students dipped in the last two years. (A fact that has concerned us greatly).

Thankfully, inspectors noted that this downward trend in progress has been reversed. Attainment and progress, especially in mathematics and English are now strong and improving rapidly.

However, the overall assessment is that the school has to improve in a number of areas. Both the Governors and the School take seriously the comments of the inspectors and will ensure that all aspects of the report are looked at carefully. Governors have already started work with the Head on an action plan to address these issues as quickly as possible. They will be supported by Education Advisers from Derbyshire County Council.

In August we are anticipating an improved set of GCSE results and 'A' level results better than we have ever had. If these results are realised we will be able to ask Ofsted to review the school again shortly in order to retain a good overall grade.

Yours faithfully

Mr P Cummings
