Yr 7 and 8 Able and Talented Huddersfield University Trip
This term, the Year 7 and 8 able and talented group got to taste higher education life firsthand at the University of Huddersfield. It was a fun day where students got to think about their next steps after leaving secondary school.
Throughout the day current students from Huddersfield University gave up their time (sleeping!) in order to provide valuable insight into true university life. In the morning session Eckington School students worked in groups on various tasks including; deciding for themselves which aspects they thought were true or false about university, determining which occupations require a degree and designing a poster for a society they want to start (the onesie society?!).
Before lunch the able and talented pupils were treated to a tour around the university campus by the Huddersfield students, which enabled them to get a true feel for the atmosphere of a typical university. The day finished with a session in a lecture theatre where Eckington students got to experience a lecture on higher education. This lecture was taught in true university style whereby the students were expected to take their own notes from the lecture and fill in a worksheet.
Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable trip in which our Eckington students got to consider their future paths. Watch this space...
