Eckington School Study Trip to China October 2016

A group of students from Eckington School spent the half term holiday developing their Mandarin language skills and enjoying the rich cultural heritage of China during a trip to Beijing and Shanghai.

The students have been studying Chinese as an extra-curricular activity through the Confucius Classroom scheme operated by the school, in association with the Confucius Institute of Sheffield University.

Students benefitted from a series of language lessons offered by the Beijing Language and Culture University, Chinas premier foreign language higher education institution.

Visits to the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City provided insights into the history and culture of the capital city and this was followed by an 800 mile train journey south to the metropolis of Shanghai.

In Shanghai, the students enjoyed a trip to Eckington Schools partner school, Kunming Middle School, as well as marvelling at the sights of this twenty-first century powerhouse.

The group returned exhausted, but with a fund of memories of the richness of a fascinating culture and a friendly population.
