Ethics lessons enable students to explore and develop their personal, social, and moral principles.  In addition student will engage with Citizenship and Enterprise education, learning about the ways in which they contribute to the community and country in which they belong.  Students will also study employability education, through a range of careers based lessons and activities throughout the year.

Students will cover all major world faiths, health and relationship education, and along with Citizenship education and study personal and financial capability.

Ethics Curriculum

The syllabus follows the guidelines drawn up by the PSHE association, Healthy Schools, The Gatsby Benchmarks and the DFEE guidance for Relationship and Sex education.

Ethics is taught by a team of humanities staff who encourage students to challenge stereotypes and preconceptions of the world around them through debate, group work, discussion and independent thought.

  • Citizenship (political systems and Democracy, PREVENT)
  • Employability Skills (Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative, Communication). World of work day.

Throughout the year the school holds 5 ‘Flexible Learning’ days during which a variety of speakers, visitors and professionals work with the students to present interesting and thought provoking experiences about a wide variety of topics.  These include; Child Sexual Exploitation, Waste Watchers, Exploring your Digital Footprint, Alcohol and substance misuse, Health Day, Safer Driving  and many more.

The school also hold a careers fair every year in which students can learn about different industries and career roles available to them.  In addition, local colleges and apprenticeship providers will also be available.


Ethics and Employability Skills Accreditation

All students are introduced to the PIXL Edge system of accreditation for the development of their employability and personal skills.


Careers / Enterprise and Financial Capability

All students have discreet careers lessons taught throughout the Ethics curriculum.  These focus on building employability skills and capabilities and encourage students to be ‘careers researchers’.  With age and stage appropriate guidance students are encouraged to prepare for interviews, write CV’s and careers action plans.  Students are introduced to various career development pathways with guidance on academic, apprenticeship and vocational routes, learning about different levels and types of qualifications available.  Students are actively encouraged to contribute to the world and community around them through participation in various citizenship based activities throughout the year.

A successful student will leave the school with a full appreciation for their environment and the way in which they contribute to the economy and community in which they belong.  They will be tolerant, well informed and be able to develop healthy and meaningful relationships in the future.
