Every young person should leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. As an Academy we have a statutory and moral duty to provide all registered students from Years 8 to 13 with Careers Information, Advice and Guidance to inspire and motivate our students to fulfill their potential.

Those who are uncertain or unrealistic about career ambitions are three times more likely to spend significant periods of time not in education, employment or training (NEET).

We will provide you with expert guidance and information to help you BE the very best you can possibly be.

By providing Information thats reliable and up-to-date, about courses, qualifications and career options or other issues youre facing and advice to help you gather and understand all the information, you will be able to:

  • work out what you really want to do
  • understand what you can achieve
  • find your way to a bright future
  • At Eckington School we provide every student with a careers information and guidance guarantee:

    At school from Year 7 onwards:

    Youre entitled to support from your Tutor who knows you well. Your Tutor will help you get specialist advice when you need it, and tackle any problems that get in the way of your learning and career action plan. Your form tutor will help you develop your confidence and employability skills.

    Youre entitled to high-quality careers education that helps you to plan and manage your career. This will be provided in your Ethics lessons and in Flexible Learning days. Your Ethics teacher will help you to write a career action plan to think about future qualifications, training or guidance needed and to signpost you to suitable online help and guidance to be an effective careers researcher.

    Youre entitled to impartial information and advice about learning and work options, including a variety of learning routes. You will be invited to careers fairs and be provided with many opportunities to learn about different learning pathway. David Holloway the schoolss careers advisor is available in a drop in session every Tuesday lunch time in the information centre. Alternatively you can use the careers search library in the humanities corridor to do some personal research with the guidance of our employer engagement manager Mrs Warren-Arms.

    Youre entitled to information and advice about the opportunities and benefits of higher education, and about what you need to do to get into university. You will be provided with many opportunities to visit universities and listen to speakers talk about higher education opportunities. You will be provided with opportunities to hear from local colleges and apprenticeship providers. Youre entitled to learning about the world of work, giving you a direct feel for what its really like. You will take part in at least two* work experience opportunities. (* further work experience opportunities are available at post 16).

    All students at Eckington are entitled to one to one advice and support from a local specialist careers advisor (David Holloway). Just ask at the Careers office to arrange an appointment if you would like one now. David Holloway is also available for a Careers information and guidance drop in session every Tuesday lunch time in the information centre. For all careers related information look for the offices in the Humanities corridor.

    You are also entitled to support from local services as needed. Please speak to your form tutor for further advice.
